Problem Statement

Scenario
We created a scenario to help us understand our persona.
~~~
Aaron is practicing in his studio, and at 11:00 a.m., he receives a call from a musician who cancels his 2:00 p.m. appointment to work with Aaron.
Aaron decides to workout at the gym at 2:00 p.m. He wants to know how crowded the gym will be at that time and what equipment will be available to use. He accesses the gym’s website and signs in to the gym dashboard to review his workout plan.
Today normally would be a “Leg Day.” Aaron clicks on the underlined Leg Day which shows him the traffic or how busy the equipment room is at any specified time. Currently, the equipment room is deserted, but it will be crowded by 2:00 p.m. He notices a new panel on his dashboard. It displays a recommendation icon. He scrolls over and sees that the gym website recommends he try a cycling class in place of his normal “Leg Day” workout. He also notices that his friend, Chad, is in the class. There are two vacant spots left with one open next to Chad. He reserves the spot next to Chad and contacts him to tell him that he will see him in the cycling class at 3:00 p.m.
Prototype
We used Azure to create the website prototype.
After a user signs in, the home page of the gym traffic and usage system opens displaying a welcome message for the user. The user can run a slideshow embedded in the web page that suggests what workout is best for the day based upon the user’s profile and interests.
A chart below the words, Leg Day, displays how crowded the equipment room is over time. Users can click on Leg Day and view a screen displaying the equipment room statistics. The statistics show what equipment is in use, what is available, and when the equipment in use will be available. Based upon the availability of the equipment, users can determine what time to go to the gym and what kind of workout would be the best choice for the day.
The bottom portion of the statistics screen contains exercise status reports that show a user’s exercise plan and progress. The reports also show what the user’s friends are doing. We included a social feature in the design of the website because we believe this encourages users to engage more in the activities available at the gym. It also provides support for users by helping them meet their fitness goals while considering their interests.
class
Users can view classes that they would like to take and see the number of openings in each class. They can reserve a place in a class by making an online reservation. After they make a reservation, the system will send an email confirmation to them.
